BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Sharks swimming program competed in a dual meet on Saturday as it took on a Sunshine State Conference opponent in the Lynn Fighting Knights. The women took down Lynn 149 to 94, and the men defeated the Knights 170.5 to 72.5.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Women's):
- Emily Trieschmann dominated the 500 Yard Freestyle, earning a victory by over 12 seconds (5:04.11).
- Emilia Ronningdal won a nail-biter in the 50 Yard Backstroke, winning by just 0.13 seconds.
- The Sharks got its third individual victory of the meet with Savanna Best winning the 50 Yard Breaststroke (29.87).
- Sasha Maslova took the victory in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a dominant time of 56.66.
- Best's second win of the meet came in the 100 Yard Breaststroke in 1:05.26, with Claire Gass finishing just behind in second place.
- NSU picked up nine more points from another Trieschmann win, this time in the 200 Yard Freestyle.
- Nova earned 16 points in the 100 Yard IM, with Ronningdal (1st/58.76), Best (2nd/59.41) and Maslova (3rd/59.62) rounding out the top three finishers.
- Led by Bethany Weber, Trieschmann, Solana Capalbo and May Lowy, the Sharks won the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay by just over six seconds.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Men's):
- The Sharks took the win in the 200 Yard Medley relay, with Jarryd Baxter, Olle Williamsson, Thomas Flower and Umberto Marsic finishing with a time of 1:35.03.
- Flower won the 200 Yard Freestyle, with Aidan Pflieger and Caleb Fell finishing just behind him to round out the top three.
- Baxter earned his second victory of the day, this time in the 50 Yard Backstroke. Gustav Henriksen earned second in the event, picking up four points for the Sharks.
- Marsic took the win in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 51.54, winning by under three seconds.
- Kaden Mackey placed first in the 50 Yard Freestyle, nearing out a close win by just .12 seconds.
- Flower continued his domination and won his third event of the day, winning the 100 Yard Freestyle (46.30).
- The Sharks picked up another victory with Baxter finishing first in the 100 Yard Backstroke (53.41).
- Henriksen thrived in the 500 Yard Freestyle, winning by over 6 seconds with a time of 4:45.78.
- In his second individual victory of the day, Marsic won the 50 Yard Butterfly in a close one (23.65).
- Baxter's strong day only got stronger, as the fifth-year swimmer won the 100 Yard IM (53.47).
- Marsic, Flower, Mackey and Rhett Moore led NSU to a win in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay.
UPCOMING
The Sharks' men's team will travel to Miami, FL to take on Florida International on Sunday, Dec. 18. The meet is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.
